Switchgear & Panel Installation
LV and MV switchgear, panel boards, and protection for institutional and commercial sites across Ghana — ACBs and MCCBs, metering, and a coordinated protection scheme, installed and tested to specification. Electricals Ghana hands it over in writing. For over 20 years.
Electricals Ghana supplies, installs, and commissions switchgear, panel boards, and distribution boards for institutional and commercial sites across Ghana — main switchboards, ACBs and MCCBs, metering, and a coordinated protection scheme, all installed and tested to a written specification. Established over 20 years ago, every board is handed over with its schedule and test results. Call +233 27 000 0866 to arrange a survey and load schedule.
Why Switchgear Is Where the Building’s Power Lives or Dies
The switchboard is the heart of a building’s electrical installation: every circuit is fed, switched, metered, and protected through it. Get the ratings and the protection scheme right and a fault clears quietly at the device nearest to it; get them wrong and a single faulty circuit blacks out the whole site, or a board cannot clear the fault it is asked to. On a commercial or institutional site that is the difference between losing one socket and losing the building. We size the switchgear to the actual load and fault level, set the protection to discriminate, and prove it before energising — so the board does its job when it is asked to.
Switchgear & Panels We Install
Main Switchboards
The main intake assembly — incomer, busbars, and main protection — built to the demand and fault level, with ACBs on the incomer and metering against the supply. The board everything else hangs off.
Distribution & Panel Boards
Sub-distribution and final distribution boards feeding floors, areas, and final circuits — MCCBs on sub-feeders, MCBs on final circuits, labelled and scheduled so the installation can be lived with and maintained.
Protection & Metering
ACBs, MCCBs, relays, and metering set into a coordinated protection scheme — discrimination graded so a fault clears at the nearest device, with metering and instruments for the loads that need to be measured.
Panel Build & Termination
Busbar work, breaker mounting, cable terminations and glanding, labelling, and earthing — built on site or as a factory-built assembly to the approved board schedule.
What a Switchgear & Panel Commission Covers
| Element | What we deliver |
|---|---|
| Main switchboard | Incomer, busbars, ACB, main protection, metering |
| Distribution & panel boards | Sub-boards, MCCBs/MCBs, labelling, schedule |
| Protection & metering | Coordinated scheme, discrimination set, instruments |
| Build & termination | Busbar work, terminations, glanding, earthing |
| Board schedule & test records | Schedules, protection settings, test results in writing |
How We Install Switchgear & Panels
- Survey & load schedule — establish loads, demand, and fault level so boards are rated, not guessed.
- Design & protection scheme — board schedule, breaker ratings, metering, discrimination — issued for approval.
- Build & install — switchboards, distribution and panel boards, terminations, labelling, earthing.
- Test, commission & hand over — test, set protection, energise, hand over schedule and results in writing.
Standards & Compliance
- Installation delivered by Energy-Commission-licensed personnel — Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals (CEWP) — to Ghana’s electrical wiring regulations (L.I. 2008) and the GS 1009:2012 wiring code
- Protection scheme designed and set for discrimination — breaker and relay ratings graded against the load schedule and the fault level, so a fault clears at the nearest device, not the main
- Where the switchboard is fed from an on-site MV transformer, the LV switchgear is coordinated with the GRIDCo / ECG supply and metering so the intake and protection sit correctly behind the utility connection
- Established over 20 years ago — board schedules, protection settings, and test results handed over in writing, owned by a named member of the Project Office from survey through warranty
What It Costs
A switchgear and panel installation is priced on survey. The cost depends on the demand, the number and rating of the boards, the breaker and metering specification, and the protection scheme — none of which can be quoted honestly before the loads and fault level are studied. We survey, design to your specification, and issue a written, itemised price before any manufacture or work begins.
Where We Work — Across Ghana
We install switchgear and panels for institutional and commercial sites across East Legon, Spintex, Tema, Airport Residential, Cantonments, Ridge, the Accra industrial areas, Achimota, and Dzorwulu — plus Kumasi and Takoradi. Diaspora and institutional owners: we survey, design, build, and hand over documented, with progress reported throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between switchgear, a panel board, and a distribution board? Switchgear switches, protects, and controls a supply — at the intake it is the main switchboard with its incomer, busbars, and protective devices. A distribution board splits a feed into final circuits with their MCBs. A panel board sits between the two as a sub-distribution board feeding an area. We design, build, and install the whole set as a coordinated system.
What is protection coordination (discrimination) and why does it matter? A scheme is discriminated when a fault clears at the breaker nearest the fault — not at the main that feeds the building. Without it, one faulty circuit can black out the whole site. We grade the breaker and relay ratings so the protection discriminates — the difference between losing one socket and losing the building.
Do you use ACBs and MCCBs, and how do you choose ratings? Yes — ACBs on main incomers and large feeders, MCCBs on sub-feeders and large final circuits, MCBs on final circuits. The ratings come from the load schedule and the fault level established at survey, so each device can clear a fault at its point and grade against the devices above and below it.
How much does a switchgear and panel installation cost? It is priced on survey — driven by the demand, the number and rating of boards, the breaker and metering specification, and the protection scheme. We survey, design to specification, and give you a written, itemised price before any manufacture or work begins.
